What does it mean to be a Whole Food Warrior?
Let’s take a step back and familiarize ourselves with what whole food means. Whole foods are food items that are as close to the source as they are created. An example is picking an apple from the tree and eating it or going to a strawberry patch and picking and eating as you go. They are the foods that you do not have to do anything to it before you can eat it.
Eating an abundance of raw fruits and vegetables every day is vital to our health and wellbeing. They contain vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants, and many other components that keep us healthy!
While getting in our raw fruits and veggies, other whole foods that are ok to cook include grains, potatoes, beans, and high-quality meats. Cooking your veggies can be ok as well as long as we are steaming them, water sauteing, or roasting them in the oven.
Don’t forget about your healthy fats! These include avocados, nuts, seeds, high quality olive oil and flax seed oil.
The key to a healthy life is to get a variety of whole foods every day. Strive to eat at least one raw meal a day. A robust salad is always an easy choice or a smoothie that contains spinach, flax seed, and frozen mixed berries.
There is an old saying, “If it is from a plant, eat it. If it was made it a plant, leave it.”
What whole food items will you try and eat today? Maybe a piece of fruit? A handful of raw nuts?
